In line with the three-stage national plan for reopening the economy, Blackwood Recreation Centre is also reopening to members in three stages.
Stage one
We are currently in stage one. Government guidelines for stage one do not allow for any indoor activities. So we are using this time to clean, sanitise and re-organise our spaces ready to welcome you once we move into stage two and beyond.
Outdoor fitness activities are allowed. Some of our Gymsport coaches are developing plans to offer outdoor boot camp type activities to our competition athletes. This pre-training regime will be designed to re-engage the athletes and enhance their fitness, strength and flexibility before indoor training starts—hopefully sometime in June. We will be emailing all Gymsport competition athletes separately with the training times and protocols that will need to be followed.
Stage two
From 8 June, our Fitness Studios will be able to reopen under strict hygiene and social distancing rules. Fitness studio memberships will also reactivate from that date.
We will email all Fitness Studio members to outline the new protocols for attending sessions, and how to book fitness sessions.
Building on the stage one reopening, we are hoping to recommence Gymsport classes in June. However, this will have to be done with the approval of Gymnastics SA (GSA) and the Office of Recreation Sport and Racing. GSA is currently developing the guidelines that we will have to adhere to. We are not permitted to offer indoor classes until we receive formal approval. We will email all Gymsport families when more details become available.
What to expect during stage two
- Hand sanitiser will be available for members to use.
- Social distancing will apply.
- Change rooms and shower facilities will not be available.
- The public toilets will be open.
- The kiosk will be open for take away food and drinks only.
- Indoor seating and refreshments will not be available.
Stage three
While the date for this stage has not been determined, we are hopeful that this will be in July. If the COVID-19 health emergency remains under control, our recreational gymnasts will be able to return at this time and we will be able to have more people in the Fitness Studio. The return of our team sports program is still very uncertain. Please be assured we will continue to monitor the situation and will recommence games as soon as we are given the go ahead.
We are excited to finally be talking about reopening and planning how this will look. It will be very different to how it was before COVID-19. We ask for your patience, support and cooperation as we work through the guidelines, so we can reopen and ensure the health and safety of all Centre users.
We look forward to welcoming you all back to the Centre soon.
Kind regards,
Margaret Cuthbertson
Centre Manager
